Another food festival? In charming Unionville? And the sun is out? We’re coming!

And so we went to Unionville, a mere 15 minutes north from here, to see what this festival was all about. The sun was out indeed, but so was the wind. Some of the windgusts we experienced earlier that day were truly storm-like, so we hoped the vendors and their tents were all still upright.

They were! This annual festival was born from a 1969 protest by concerned citizens fearing that the widening of a nearby road (Kennedy Road) may destroy homes and businesses along the historic Main Street in Unionville. Their rallies resulted in a bypass of Kennedy Road and secured this beautiful street for future generations to enjoy. The festival started in 1970 and continues to welcome thousands of people every year.

Unionville, and especially its Main Street, is dotted with buildings from the late 1800’s (though my pictures don’t show it), and featured in many TV-series and movies such as Gilmore Girls, In The Mouth Of Madness and A Merry Little Ex-Mas, to name a few. It’s just a pretty little town! There was plenty good food around from the restaurants along the street, some staples we know from other locations (like Sweetiepie), a bunch of food trucks, street performers and music.

My camera was giving me some focussing issues (a trusted Nikon F100 which is starting to show its age a bit), and the film was waaayyy expired Ektachrome (still in this camera since the total solar eclipse a few years ago), but I managed to wrangle out a few pics nonetheless. This was a fun afternoon and another one to come back to next year. Fun fact: yours truly got married here!
